Macmillan charity event
As the autumn kicked off, it was time for what has become a tradition at Tewin Tennis Club – the annual charity tournament. Ably organised by Cheryl and Bert Robinson, couples signed up to a day of wife swapping doubles competition, which was one away of avoiding all those recriminations later into the evening after the dust had settled.
12 couples took part, each playing three rounds, interspersed with a sit down lunch and then tea and cakes during the afternoon. It was a proper English village event.
Those who passed by the tennis club later in the afternoon may have been alarmed at what seemed like 12-a-side tennis. It was, Bert having declared this was a suitable way to finish the happy day off.
As you will have worked out, having fun was a major part of the event, but somebody had to win, and the prize went to Keith Duerden and Helen Smith.
The day raised over £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Our great thanks go to Cheryl and Bert for their brilliant organisation.
From July 2016 we have spanking new court surfaces and brand new fencing all around our courts. A great deal of time has been put in both by the club committee and by other club members to get this in place, so thanks to everyone involved.
We hope you enjoy playing on the refreshed courts, and that your balls are now less like to fly away over the higher fencing!
The club now has its own resident tennis and squash racket stringer, Deirdre Hatt:
